Spring Health, a global mental health company built on one AI-native platform, announced an agreement to acquire Alma in a deal reported by The Wall Street Journal in January 2026. The Journal described the transaction as a merger of two significant players in the mental health startup space, combining Spring Health’s employer and health plan infrastructure with Alma’s network of more than 26,000 independent clinicians and its payer relationships.

The Journal framed the strategic logic around a persistent problem in mental health care: fragmentation. When people change jobs, lose coverage, or need a higher level of care, their mental health support typically resets around them. The combination is designed to address that gap — creating a system where members can stay connected to quality care across transitions in employment, insurance, and clinical need.

The acquisition closed on May 1, 2026, with the combined company now supporting more than 170 million lives globally across employers and health plans. "By uniting Spring Health and Alma, we are becoming the first platform built to deliver mental health care with continuity across employment, coverage, and life stage changes," said April Koh, Co-Founder and CEO of Spring Health.
