Spring Health has just published the largest outcomes study of its kind in the behavioral health industry—and the results confirm measurable, reliable clinical improvement at scale for depression and anxiety.
The study, published in the peer-reviewed journal Online Journal of Public Health Informatics (OJPHI), analyzed nearly 53,000 members across more than 500 U.S. employers. The findings show that:
- 92.3% of members reliably improved or recovered from depression or anxiety.
- 61.7% reached remission, meaning their symptoms dropped below the clinical threshold.
- Clinical effect sizes (which measure the strength of the relationship between assessment score changes and treatments) were highly significant—1.61 for depression and 1.82 for anxiety. That's more than double the benchmark for standard therapy.
These outcomes are statistically significant and consistent across age, gender, racial, and ethnic groups, demonstrating the equity of our approach.
Proof that care can scale without sacrificing outcomes
Over the course of the study period, Spring Health’s member base grew exponentially, from 260,000 to 9.6 million eligible lives. Even with that rapid expansion, outcomes improved. In fact, our measurement-based, precision-matched care model became even more effective as we scaled.
“This research validates the investments we’ve made to deliver a single, unified platform across 100% of our providers and members globally,” said Dr. Mill Brown, Spring Health’s Chief Medical Officer. “We’re proud to be the only mental health solution that enables true measurement-based care across our entire network.”
What this means for employers
If you’ve struggled to connect your mental health investments to clinical outcomes, this study delivers the data you’ve been asking for.
